INTENSE PULSE LIGHT FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DOES IPL WORK?
Intense Pulse light (IPL), also known as Broad Band Light (BBL) or Photofacials, are one of our most popular treatments for brown and red pigment under the skin. By selecting the right wavelength we can target rosacea, redness, and blood vessels, as well as unwanted brown spots from sun damage and melasma. We can treat the signs of sun damage anywhere on the body with IPL, making it a very effective and versatile treatment. IPL also helps to improve the tone and texture of your skin for a healthy looking glow. We can use IPL to treat unwanted hair since the broadband light targets brown pigment in your hair follicle. You may also notice an improvement in the texture and tone of your skin as the light stimulates slight collagen production.
HOW LONG WILL MY APPOINTMENT TAKE?
Most appointments take 30-40 minutes, depending on the areas you are having treated.
DOES IPL HURT?
IPL treatments are not painful and feel like a rubber band snap with every pulse of light delivered to your skin. This sensation goes away very quickly. Most people describe this as a very tolerable and not painful treatment.
IS IPL SAFE?
IPL is a safe treatment in the hands of an experienced professional. Because the light targets brown pigment in the skin, it is not appropriate for people of color or if you have a tan since the light may target and remove the color in your skin. We recommend avoiding IPL at least 2 weeks before going into the sun and at least 2 weeks after having been in the sun.
WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Brown pigment will come up like black pepper flakes and falls off within 3-7 days. Your redness will fade over the next 2-4 weeks. You may resume daily activities immediately after the treatment making this a true no downtime procedure. We recommend 3-6 treatments spaced 1 month apart for the best results.
HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?
Your results will depend on your skin type and the sun damage you have developed under your skin. Over time, genetic redness and new pigment from sun exposure history may start to surface and will require maintenance treatments every 3-6 months.
AM I A CANDIDATE?
If you have brown spots, signs of sun damage, uneven skin tone, redness, rosacea or melasma, IPL may be a good treatment for you. It is a great maintenance treatment for improving and maintaining overall tone and texture. It is not however the right choice if you are darker skinned or are tan. It is best to discuss this with one of our trained providers.
HOW MUCH DOES IPL COST?
The cost of IPL depends on the area that we treat and is best discussed with your provider. You may choose to treat only your face, or add your neck, chest, arms and hands.
We sell IPL treatments in packages of 3 at a discounted price per treatment cost since we believe that you will need at least 3 treatments to achieve optimal results. You may choose to do only one treatment at a higher price. Most treatments range from $250-$600 per treatment.
