Cincinnati Microneedling Treatments
Stimulate collagen and elastin to treat fine lines, wrinkles, and scarring.
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy (CIT), rejuvenates skin, treats fine lines and wrinkles, and improves acne, scars, and stretch marks.
- Minimal downtime
- Great for skin maintenance
- Treat acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles
What to Expect
A nurse will start by taking your Visia picture to get a baseline and assess your skin’s progress. We will then cleanse your face to prepare for your treatment and apply anesthetic.
Once you are ready, the anesthetic will be removed and your skin will be cleansed again prior to your treatment. Your skin care provider will determine the appropriate treatment depth based on your needs, and after a thin layer of serum is applied to your skin, the microneedling pen is gently glided across your skin. This results in thousands of microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area. The repair process, or collagen induction therapy, begins almost immediately as fibroblasts start synthesizing new collagen.
Your skin may be pink and there may be a small amount of pinpoint bleeding. The pinkness and bleeding will fade quickly and usually resolves within a few hours to a couple days. It is important not to apply anything other than what is recommended to the treated skin, especially for the first 12-24 hours, since the micro-injuries need time to heal. You can wash your face 12 hours after the procedure and we encourage you to use mineral-based makeup since this is healthier for the skin.
How long is the appointment?
Our trained nurses will take pictures and apply a topical numbing for 20 minutes prior to your procedure beginning. Once the treatment begins, it will take about 20-40 minutes depending on the area we are treating.
How does it work?
Collagen and elastin are one of the primary building blocks of our skin and create what we like to call the “filling in the mattress of our skin.” As we age, however, our collagen production not only slows down but we also start to break down the collagen and elastin that we do have. The loss of collagen leads to fine lines, wrinkles, increased pore size, and overall aging.
During microneedling, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin which in turn triggers the production of collagen and elastin. Increasing your skin’s collagen and elastin leads to younger looking, thicker skin with improved texture.
Does microneedling hurt?
Our providers will do everything they can to minimize discomfort with topical numbing creams we apply for you in the office. Microneedling feels like a rough cat’s tongue and is very tolerable.
When will I start seeing results?
You may see results after your first treatment, but most people will see more improvement after 3 treatments since collagen takes 3 months to visibly develop. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, usually require 6 or more treatments to achieve the desired results. We recommend 3-6 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Will there be downtime?
You may be pink and slightly swollen for the first 1 to 4 days but most people find that they can go to work the next day.
