What to Expect
Avoid retinoids and sun exposure for 5 days prior to your treatment. Do not schedule if you have been on Accutane/Isotretinoin within the last 6 months. Your provider will start by taking your Visia picture to get a baseline and assess your skin’s progress.
Your provider will cleanse your face and start applying the different solutions of the peel. You may feel a slight tingling sensation that can last for a few minutes and then dissipate. You should have no lasting discomfort after the peel. We will apply sunscreen after your peel and we encourage sun protection.
Some treatments will cause peeling that begins 2 days after the treatment while some will not cause peeling at all. This can last for 3-5 days. For 12 hours after your peel, avoid washing your face, exercising or sweating, and direct sunlight.
How do chemical peels work?
A chemical peel is simply the application of different chemicals such as alpha-hydroxy acid and salicylic acid to exfoliate the skin.
How long is the appointment?
Appointments can take anywhere from 30-40 minutes.
Do peels hurt?
They should not hurt. You may feel a slight tingling sensation that can last for a few minutes and then dissipates. You should have no lasting discomfort after the peel. If you feel any new pain or itching, please reach out to us .
Are chemical peels safe?
Peels are safe when done under the care of an experienced practitioner. You should always consult your provider to choose the right peel for your skin. Please stop any retinoic acid product (Retin-A, tretinoin or retinols) as well as your acne regimen 5 days prior to your peel for best results. Do not do peels if you have been on Accutane within the last 6 months. How you take care of your skin after the peel is also important. Consult your provider about the best options after your peel.
When will I start seeing results?
You should see results with your first peel, but for optimum results, peels should be done in a series every 3 to 6 weeks.
How often should I get a chemical peel?
For most superficial peels, we recommend monthly peels in a series of 3-6 peels followed by one every 3 to 4 months for maintenance. Remember that aging does not happen overnight, so neither does the solution.
What should I expect?
Although most people experience peeling, some people do not. Even if you do not peel, you are still benefiting from the exfoliation and collagen building qualities from your peel. Your post-care will help you heal more quickly and get back to your every day.
Am I a candidate?
Almost everyone is a candidate for a peel.
How much do chemical peels cost?
Peels range in price from $100-$300 depending on the strength of the peel, but since we firmly believe that your results will be better when done in a series, we have created packages to include post-care and better pricing.
