Cincinnati Microneedling Treatments

WHY MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a new way to rejuvenate the skin, treat fine lines and wrinkles as well as acne, other scars and stretch marks. Your results can be enhanced when we combine Microneedling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP).

  • Minimal downtime
  • Safe and Effective
  • Treat acne, scars, fine lines & wrinkles
  • Great for skin maintenance

WHY AT MONA DERMATOLOGY?

MONA dermatology was the first office in the city to start doing Microneedling since 2011.  We can do it alone to treat scars or pair it with your own PRP to boost your results.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Before Treatment

Avoid retinoids for 5 days prior to your treatment.  Do not schedule if you have been on Accutane/Isotretinoin within the last 6 months. Avoid sun exposure to the treated area for 2 to 5 days before your treatment.

If you are adding platelet-rich plasma, please be sure to drink lots of fluids several hours before your appointment to allow for a successful blood draw. If you are dehydrated and we cannot obtain enough blood, your appointment will need to be rescheduled.

During Treatment

Once you arrive, the area will be cleansed and numbed for 20-30 minutes prior to your treatment time. Once you are ready, the anesthetic will be removed and your skin will be cleansed again prior to your treatment. Your skin care provider will determine the appropriate treatment depth based on your needs, and after a thin layer of serum is applied to your skin, the Microneedling pen is gently glided across your skin. This results in thousands of microscopic channels throughout the entire treatment area. The repair process, or Collagen Induction Therapy, begins almost immediately and fibroblasts start synthesizing new collagen.

After Treatment

Your skin may be pink and there may be a small amount of pinpoint bleeding. The pinkness and bleeding will fade quickly and usually resolves within a few hours to a couple days. It is important not to apply anything other than what is recommended to the treated skin, especially for the first 12-24 hours, since the micro-injuries need time to heal. You can wash your face 12 hours after the procedure and we encourage you to use mineral-based make-up since this is healthier for the skin.

MICRONEEDLING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Collagen and elastin are one of the primary building blocks of our skin and create what we like to call the “filling in the mattress of our skin.” As we age though, our collagen production not only slows down but we also start to break down the collagen and elastin that we do have. The loss of collagen leads to fine lines, wrinkles, increased pore size, and overall aging.

During Microneedling, tiny needles are used to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin which in turn triggers the production of collagen and elastin. Increasing your skin’s collagen and elastin leads to younger looking, thicker skin with improved texture.

HOW LONG WILL MY APPOINTMENT TAKE?

Appointment time depends on the area we are treating. A small scar may only take a few minutes while treating a larger area may take 30 minutes. Once you arrive, the area will be cleansed and numbed for 20-30 minutes prior to your treatment time.

IS MICRONEEDLING SAFE?

Microneedling is a very safe procedure in the hands of a trained provider. Using the Microneedling pens, we can create a very controlled injury that is safe and adjustable to your needs

DOES MICRONEEDLING HURT?

Our providers will do everything they can to minimize discomfort with topical numbing creams we apply for you in the office. Microneedling feels like a rough cat’s tongue and is very tolerable.

WHEN WILL I START SEEING RESULTS?

You may see results after your first treatment, but most people will see more improvement after 3 treatments since collagen takes 3 months to visibly develop. You may see faster results when combined with the PRP. Patients with deep wrinkles, advanced sun damage, stretch marks, or any type of scars, usually require 6 or more treatments to achieve the desired results.

We recommend 3-6 treatments spaced 6-8 weeks apart.

WILL THERE BE DOWNTIME?

You may be pink and slightly swollen for the first 1 to 4 days but most people find that they can go to work the next day.

AM I A CANDIDATE?

Almost everyone is a candidate, even people with darker skin. This is also an ideal treatment for people who do not want a laser treatment but want more than what peels can offer them.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TREATMENT?

Avoid retinoids for 5 days prior to your treatment. Do not schedule if you have been on Accutane/Isotretinoin within the last 6 months

If having micro-needling with PRP, be sure to drink lots of fluids several hours before your appointment to allow for a successful blood draw. If you are dehydrated and we cannot obtain enough blood, your appointment will need to be rescheduled or done without PRP.

HOW MUCH DOES MICRONEEDLING COST?

Microneedling ranges from $150 to $300 per treatment on it’s own without the PRP.
